made by the Czechoslovakian artist Jean Dedina (1870-1955)
It is the original drawing having been used to illustrate the novel of Pierre Louÿs "The Woman and the Puppet" in 1899 (novel illustrated by Antoine Calbet and Jean Dedina).
It represents the main character André Stévenol accompanied by a young Andalusian woman Concepción Pérez whom he fell under the spell during the carnival of Seville in Spain.
Signed in pencil lower right. Period: end of the 19th century, around 1899.
Note on the back a study of a leg as well as the mention "La Femme et le Pantin, page 67"
Condition: paper sunstroke, tiny rednesses.

Jean Dedina:
Born September 1, 1870 in Strak (Czechoslovakia). Died in 1955. Also active in France. Czechoslovakian.
Painter and illustrator. Painter of religious subjects and character compositions.
He was a student of Josef Zenisek at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. In Paris, in 1895, he collaborated in the realization of the ceiling of the Comédie Française. He was associated with the National Society of Fine Arts from 1903. He painted, in particular, biblical episodes Sermon on the mountain, famous characters Joan of Arc, Life of the Martyr Jean Huss, daily scenes Le Déjeuner. ..
